The Renaissance Series by Chicago-based photographer Freddy Fabris quite literally portrays the mechanics of art. That is to say the works depict auto repair workers in poses from famous Renaissance artists including Michelangelo and Rembrandt.

About

New York born artist, Freddy Fabris, is a renowned photographer who lives and works in the US. The involvement of his work is profound and detailed, achieving character and distinctiveness.  His latest project 'The Renaissance Series' achieved both critical acclaim and accolades. Fabris, who has a background in painting, had long wanted to pay homage to the works of classic painters like Rembrandt and Da Vinci using his camera.

"Translating painting into photography was a challenge I looked forward to. I wanted to respect the look and feel of the originals, but needed to come up with a conceptual twist that would create a new layer to the original. To take them out of their original context, yet maintain their essence. By chance I came across an old Midwest car shop that triggered this series, the place screamed for something to be shot there, and slowly but steadily ideas started to fall in to place. I selected ‘The Last Supper’ by Phillipe de Champaigne, ‘The Anatomy Lesson’ by Rembrandt, and ‘The Creation of Adam’ by Michelangelo as the main start point, and then expanded the series with Rembrandt inspired portraits."

The staggering amount of craft and skill present in each shot is undeniable. From the careful composition of bodies to the striking use of light to illuminate the face of each subject is simultaneously pin sharp, clever and innovative.
