ReLAY Returns

ReLAY Returns presents the culmination of work from the whole ReLAY project which has spanned over the past 18 months, with four artists working in collaboration; Eden Dodd, Mylo Elliott, Abi Birkinshaw and Caitlin Flood-Molyneux.

The exhibition at MADE gallery brings together the whole body of the artists' work developed in four stages; relayed back and forth between the artists across different sites; from Cardiff to Glasgow, to a back garden in the valleys, then a theatre loading bay back, and now to MADE Gallery where the artists worked together on one large scale painting and showcased alongside works produced this Summer at the Wales Millenium Centre, as part of ‘Your Voice’ and a selection of pieces from 2020/2021's body of work.

ReLAY began as an idea suggested by Eden Dodd and Mylo Elliott in early 2020 (pre-lockdown) two artists based in Cardiff who were already familiar with each others’ practice. The interplay of text, symbolism and personal motifs, being common in their work seemed like a natural fit and a way of them understanding through observing and reacting to each other’s marks - a new way of developing these references. Using drawings passed to each other, initially side by side, then after lockdown via post - the process enabled thought to come into the process as responsive - forcing their habitual method of image making into adapting to another.
