About

Artcore would like to invite you to join us for our latest exhibition, Re-imagine The City. The exhibition will showcase the work of our two artists in residence, Jess Price and Katharina Fitz.

For Re-Imagine the City, Katharina Fitz has worked on a project surrounding pub culture and the issue of disappearing public houses in the UK. The works exhibited express concern at the disappearance of the British Pub, as it functions as a social forum where different generations meet and socialise.  The loss of the pub, for Katharina, signifies the loss of focal points of our communities, and places of unique tradition and character. The pieces exhibited are inspired by objects such as beer kegs and taps that act as junctions, connecting pubs to each other and the outside world. Fitz is fascinated by the act of disappearance, something she traces through history.

Jess Price, a recent Derby University graduate, is interested in revealing oppressive social and political structures within cities. Her work comments on one of today’s most pressing issues: homelessness in Derby. She seeks to illuminate the role of artists in a time of crisis, and use art as a form of free speech to question our rampant consumer society and its effect on disadvantaged areas of the city.

The exhibition will be accompanied with an online publication featuring works from both artists. The catalogue will be released after the opening night and will be richly illustrated with images from the exhibition.
