ReGroup: Eric Butcher, Roy Brown, Simon Granell, Paul Horne
About
ReGroup brings together four artists who have collaborated in various guises but never previously shown together. The work is connected by the concern for method, rules and activity that create a unique history to every piece, where process rather then outcome is paramount.
Granell's painting is pure process; a single colour and a single brushstroke overlayed again and again. It is a disciplined approach, which overtime creates a rich, chaotic surface of extraordinary depth.
By comparison, Eric Butchers work seems precise and machine-made. Yet the marks, colours and indentiations are pure chance, the result of random layering, stripping and scratching of colour and surface.
Roy Brown's detailed pencil portraits of beauty salon models, have perfect hair, but layers of artifice have been stripped back, exposing sinew and tissue of the creatures beneath
Paul Horne explores our fascination with place, experience and memory, creating works apparently fused with information and meaning, that are abstract and beautiful in their own right.
The show is open from Fri-Sun from 10-6 until 1st April, and at other times by appointment.
