About
Refugia - a term used in biology to refer to those areas where organisms continue to survive through periods of extreme or unfavorable conditions. (origin 1950s: from Latin, literally 'place of refuge')In these new works Elwes continues to expand the range of his concerns, incorporating his own travels - to the Tibetan Plateau, the Djebel Sarhro, and the Mayan sites of Central America - with the conceptual mapping of physical and historical space, and the impact of time and memory on the 'geographical unconcious'.
