REFORMING ANATOMY: The Interplay Between Art & Surgery is a cross-disciplinery event exploring the relationship between contemporary artistic and surgical practices.
About
Through a series of keynote talks from eclectic speakers and interactive workshops, Reforming Anatomy aims to examine the way in which creative and scientific disciplines can benefit one another.The conference will take place at the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine and will include the following contributions:
'THE ALTERNATIVE LIMB PROJECT: The Art of Prosthetics'- a talk by the founder of The Alternative Limb Project, Sophie Oliviera Barata

'LEARNING FROM JAZZ: Improvisation in Contemporary Surgery'- a talk by dynamic surgeon Professor Roger Kneebone

'Why does the Weeping Willow Weep? A new conceptualisation of oncogenesis'- a talk by Professor Michael Baum

'Re-presenting pain and the self via images'- a talk by Dr Deborah Padfield

'"Nature attended perfection:" Robert Knox the anatomist and female beauty'- a talk by Dr Alan Bates
A panel discussion will follow with Professor Michael Baum, Dr Alan Bates and Dr Deborah Padfield.

'RETHINKING WORKSHOPS'- participants will take part in three separate workshops:
1. 'Rethinking the Stitch: Embroidery Workshop' run by Hand & Lock embroidery company
2. 'Rethinking the Suture: Surgery Workshop' run by professional surgeons
3. 'Rethinking the Body: Life Drawing Workshop' run by Sharon Brindle
