Reforest celebrates 20 years of artists' commissions in King's Wood, Kent.

About

Bringing together commissioned works, reconstructions and documents from the Stour Valley Arts archives, this exhibition explores the evolving story of the organisation and the range of artistic responses to this particular forest. A free public panel discussion event to compliment the exhibition will feature three previously commissioned artists. The artists will talk about their own experiences and give some insight into the different approaches taken by artists through the past twenty years. Rosie Leventon's land art intervention at King's Wood helped establish the organisation's reputation, while recently commissioned artist Louisa Martin responded to a different local landscape, the river Stour, illustrating the organisation's broadening focus. The panel also includes composer Matthew King whose symphony for French horns and electronics was performed in the forest and reflects SVA's interest in artists working at the edges visual arts practice. The talk will be hosted by our curator, Dan Howard-Birt and curatorial intern, Ali Farmer, who devised and produced the exhibition. Free event. Building is wheelchair accessible.
