Original paintings by Ray Podolczuk & Jacqueline Franks

Ray Podolchuk, a professional fine artist, currently working in the ‘Alentejo Litoral' region of Portugal is pleased to announce an exhibition of his latest work ‘Reflections' at the gallery in February. Ray is best known in UK for his painting of the sailing ship Endeavour which toured the coastline in the UK as the replica ship visited in the 1990s — limited edition prints of which were sold across the world. Focusing on this lesser well-known area of Portugal, Ray has captured the beauty of the rugged coastline of the Alentejo Litoral - which runs from Setubal down to Sagres — as well as the true essence of the area through its buildings and people. The quality of the light in this region of unspoilt coastline is remarkable and is reproduced brilliantly by the vibrant acrylics. The works are on canvas, and reflect the stunning plays of light on the shorelines and the bright colours of the traditional architecture. Some of the work aims to demonstrate the simplicity of the traditional art and lifestyle there; from historically important buildings to abandoned fishing boats and local people. Ray has sold several pieces of his work in this area to both tourists and locals. He spends most of his time completing commissioned works. Ray will be joined by the artist Jacqueline Franks, a mixed media artist living and working in London, whose work has a sincere and yet ethereal quality based mainly on faces and nature. Her preference tends to be toward oil paint on canvas; however her work also incorporates many other techniques, media and objects such as beads, buttons, sequins and real piercings to create depth, texture and intrigue. For Jacqueline, art is a tool to express her innermost thoughts and feelings, almost like the story of her journey and personal musings. Jacqueline has created several commissioned pieces and has also entered paintings into art competitions in London, such as The National Portrait Gallery BP Award, and The Royal Academy of Arts summer competition. Along with original canvasses, prints of the more popular pieces are available and commissions are also welcome.
