Barking and Dagenham is celebrating Black History Month in October with a special exhibition from Bemi Eyetsemitan and Chirag Mulia. With children as the main focus, Bemi's work encapsulates the lives of families across Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Children's unassuming nature and ability to inspire silent hope in the form of an innocent smile, even in dire situations of want, serves as their shield against the hailstones of reality. Chirag Mulia is a rangoli artist. Rangoli is the most popular art form in India. It is a form of decoration that uses finely ground white marble powder practiced by Hindus during the Festival of Lights to welcome Lakshmi (the Hindu goddess of wealth) to their homes. Chirag received a lot of publicity recently when his work was featured as part of Channel 4 Television's Indian Winter Season. This artwork has also appeared on BBC news and in art galleries around North London.
