The production first opened in 2009 and went on to win six Tony Awards following a Broadway transfer, including one for Best Play.

Red is about artist Mark Rothko (Molina) and his young assistant Ken (Enoch), and the up and coming artists of the new generation. Rothko is dealt his toughest challenge to date: paint a number of murals for the lavish Four Seasons restaurant.

Red will run at Wyndham’s Theatre until 28th July 2018, and opened in May to a string of positive reviews including one from LondonTheatre.co.uk critic Mark Shenton who said the play is "a tense and occasionally ferocious exploration of the price of making art".

Alfred Molina reprises his role from the original Donmar production, for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play after the show’s New York transfer. Molina is best known for his roles in films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Da Vinci Code and Chocolat. His stage roles include the original Broadway production of Art, and a revival of Fiddler on the Roof.

Alfred Enoch is known for playing the role of Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter film series, as well as a role in the NBC series How to Get Away With Murder. Enoch’s previous screen credits include Coriolanus at the Donmar Warehouse, Antigone at the National Theatre and Happy New at the Old Red Lion.

Red has set and costume design by Christopher Oram, lighting by Neil Austin and sound design by Adam Cork.

This production will reunite John Logan and Michael Grandage following Peter and Alice with Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw which formed part of MGC’s inaugural season in the West End in 2013. Grandage has also announced a production of The Lieutenant of Inishmore, starring Poldark actor Aidan Turner, at the Noel Coward Theatre in 2018.
