A walk-in audio play with too many voices and too little translation.
About
What constitutes receiving societies? Who receives, or records, whom and to what end? How do the German media report about arrival and reception? The author and radio broadcaster Julia Tieke has developed a walk-in audio play specifically for the cupola hall of the silent green that transfers the discourse to a linguistic and acoustical process of translation, interpretation, and commentary.
The audio piece is created between twelve loudspeakers arranged throughout the space. Media reports about migration and displacement in 2015 form the basis for monologues heard in seven different languages. Over headphones, visitors can choose between other audio tracks in order to listen in on the commentaries and stories of the translators, speakers, and sound technicians who participated in the production. They reflect on the pitfalls of translation processes, report on their experiences with flight and reception and seek answers to questions, which remain unasked.
