Recipe for a Pocket is the first correspondence show at Calcio by Rita Silva and Lucía del Valle Ramírez, next Friday 21st of June from 6-10pm.
About
Using the drive as an incubator, mirroring a studio, Lucía del Valle Ramírez and Rita Silva have been developing new work over a period of 6 months, without the previous perception of each other’s identity and practice. This anonymity allowed them to generate new ways of communication based on language and image, enabling them to focus on process and on generating a common space.
The correspondences have enlightened shared themes on each other’s practice: repetition, the daily landscape and auto-fiction, which were slowly uncovered through time. Their dynamic of answer to answer permitted them to direct each other, to guide and be guided.
The game of not knowing who is on the other side created an impulse to imagine, to create a fictional image of who the other person might be. Moved by intuition, each answer gave clues of each other and each other’s work. Similarly to putting up a puzzle together without knowing the final image, little by little the image reveals itself.
The artists have remained anonymous during the conception of the show. They will meet online for the first time, two weeks before the opening, to plan the installation of the exhibition in Calcio, exploring the ways their works can exist together in a physical space.
What fits into a pocket? A letter, a photograph and a hand.
