Rebecca Purdum was born in 1959 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She spent her childhood moving, an experience from which she learned how to choose what to keep and what to leave behind. She studied painting at Syracuse University; the St. Martin’s School of Art, London, England, and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She moved to New York City in 1981 and had her first one-person show in 1985. She now lives in Ripton, Vermont.
Robert Storr: Painter curator and critic. Former senior curator, Museum of Modern Art, NY; Director of Visual Arts, Venice Biennale 2007; Rosalie Solow Professor of Modern Art at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts, 2002-2006; Dean, Yale University School of Art, 2006-2016. Professor of Painting, Yale, 2006 – 2020; contributing editor, Art in America; author of books on Gerhard Richter, Philip Guston and Louise Bourgeois, Writings on Art 1980-2020 (Heni Publications, London 2020) Interviews on Art (Heni 2017) .
