About

Chapter 3 is the third session in our series of participatory discussions that use relevant, accessible texts as a starting point. For this meeting, we will be considering the first and last chapter of Shulasmith Firestone's 1970 book The Dialectic of Sex. In this ground breaking text, Shulasmith offers a radical view of the second wave feminist movement for social equality with the aim to break free from oppressive power structures set up by nature and enforced by men. The discussion will be initiated by Stella Sandford, Reader in the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy, Kingston University. Her work in feminist theory and philosophy includes Plato and Sex (2010) and (as co-editor, with Mandy Merck) Further Adventures of the Dialectic of Sex: Critical Essays on Shulamith Firestone (2010). She is a member of the Radical Philosophy editorial collective. Contributions to the discussion are welcome from the audience. To download the text visit www.carrollfletcher.com Tickets £5, booking essential as places are limited: carrollfletcher.eventbrite.co.uk
