About

Join us for a creative workshop - Read Write & Draw Rubaiyat Poems

Immerse yourself in the world of ancient Persian poetry at this interactive workshop dedicated to astrnomer-poet Omar Khayyam’s Rubaiyat, as rendered into English verse. This event for adults is perfect for illustration and poetry enthusiasts of all skill levels.

On Saturday, 28th October 2023, from 10:30am to 1.30pm, we will gather at CHAPTER 34 Independent Bookshop, 32-34 Brunswick Road, Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43 5WB to celebrate the beauty of Rubaiyat poetry - and have fun with drawing, painting, making clay pinch-pots and writing modern-day Rubaiyat style four line poems. Express your creativity, share your thoughts, and connect with fellow poetry and illustration lovers in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Don‘t worry about rusty drawing skills - this event is for fun.

The Rubaiyat poems feature humanistic themes of the fleeting nature of life and living for today. To inspire illustrations, the poems are full of metaphoric mystery, elements and skies, places along the distant silk route, flowers, birds, beasts, ancient kings, busy markets and even talking pots.

Whether you're familiar with Rubaiyat poetry or discovering it for the first time, this event promises to be a fun experience. All materials included, light refreshments provided, plus following the event participants will be emailed a link to a digital poetry book produced from illustrations and poems created during the workshop.

Bring an apron - and your imagination.
