About

Dating back to the early 1800’s, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in one of the oldest art societies in the UK. It is made up of artists who are elected to be RBSA Members, Associates and Honorary Members.

There are currently over 130 Members and 40 Associates in the Society, in addition to 13 Honorary Members. The RBSA also welcome and support early career artists through the Graduate Artists programme, who are elected biennially.

As an artist-led charity, the RBSA aims to further artistic practice and the public understanding of art. 2022 has been an historic year for the RBSA, as the society members voted overwhelming in favour of accepting photographers and artists who practice other contemporary digital art-forms into the Society’s membership.

This exhibition encapsulates the current artistic practice of the RBSA Members, Associates, and Graduate Artists. It includes a wide range of mediums and styles, including batik, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and textiles.

The Members & Associates exhibition continues to be one of the galleries most popular shows due to the variety of work on display. Artists are free to exhibit without any curatorial constraints, meaning the exhibition becomes a celebration of the diverse practices of the RBSA.
