About

Curator: Christopher Houghton Budd, PhD* Did you ever wonder what happened to the Wizard of Oz? In the original tale he leaves the city of Oz (= 1oz of gold) departing in a hot air balloon. But where did he go? He flew over the 20th century to land in Rare Albion, a special country where money and capital are seen as metaphors for meeting people's material needs and financing their dreams and tasks in life. In Rare Albion all education is built around this understanding of finance, because there that is how they ensure that financial life is stable and certain, so that it sustains social life, rather than threatens it. This exhibition highlights how finance is understood in Rare Albion ...and how it may one day be understood everywhere. *Born and brought up near Tunbridge Wells, Christopher Houghton Budd is an economic and monetary historian. He travels widely giving lectures and workshops on many aspects of modern economic life in both academic and lay contexts. He has studied a variety of economic disciplines, including neo-liberalism, Marxism and green or ‘alternative' thinking, and has a special interest in youth financial literacy.
