Rachel Schwalm: Stilled point of a turning world

About

Pippa Jane Wielgos Rachel Schwalm's work is a synthesis of painting, sculpture and architecture. Inspired by the frescoes of the Italian Renaissance and proportions of Classical buildings her work is made from alabaster, onyx and Jerusalem limestone. Winchester Cathedral have also recently commissioned Schwalm to make a new altar-piece for The Venerable Chapel. A maquette of the work, which will form the main altar-piece of the cathedral, built in 1079 in the Romanesque style, reputed as one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in England and longest cathedral naves in Europe will also be on display.
