Quartet presents 4 artists in 4 exciting new exhibitions at Margate's iconic Pie Factory spaces

About

Quartet presents 4 artists in 4 exciting new exhibitions at Margate's iconic Pie Factory spaces.

Jo Archer is a mixed-media artist who combines the techniques of collage, assemblage and textile art. Working under the alias of 'The Crow Road', her work is heavily layered and textured, combining elements such as embroidery, old papers, found objects and wax. For 'Quartet', she presents a new series of wall-based works which have been especially created for the Pie Factory Margate environment.

If the purpose of art is to ameliorate or instil passion, Margot Bandola provides a concrete example of these qualities and more. All land, sea and sky are masked by her weightless evocations of a world behind the curtain… and that world is within you and without you. The settings are places we’ve all been – or are on our way to visit – and the half-seen characters are our futures and pasts. Established in Ramsgate, Margot returns to Pie Factory Margate as guest artist, presenting new works for ‘Quartet’.

Using shrine-like boxes, the reliquaries of Jennie Sharman-Cox, with their undeniably religious overtones are three-dimensional narratives, very often from a female perspective. Drawing on historical references, the figurative tradition and sacred imagery from antiquity, her work reflects our ongoing curiosity with death and desire, love and loss and - particularly- the morbid and the macabre. Recently having shown in London with Graham Ward, Jennie presents her iconic work in Margate for the first time.

Graham Ward returns to the Brick Space  where, in 2018, he exhibited 'his 'Fisterra - The Fourteen Stations', based on the pilgrim path to Finisterre on the Galician coast of North West Spain. For 'Quartet', he presents a selection of new paintings which echo his ongoing fascination with the great Pilgrim Roads to Santiago, and which provide a primer for a new series of  paintings entitled 'Icons for the Way’.

‘Quartet’ opens at Pie Factory Margate on 20th March and is open daily from 11.00am - 5.00pm  until the 25th March 2020.
