‘Putin’s Happy’ is a new film by Jeremy Deller filmed in and around Parliament Square, London between January and March 2019. It features a cast of those involved in protest outside the Houses of Parliament and concludes with footage of the Brexit Betrayal March on March 29th. Through conversations with activists and onlookers on either side of the conflict, the film captures a new and increasingly radical political landscape, shining a light on the nation’s discordant relationship with the EU, Westminster and itself.
‘Putin’s Happy’ is commissioned and produced by steirischer herbst ’19 in collaboration with Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien. It is directed by Jeremy Deller and edited by John McAvoy. Camera Jared Schiller and Jeremy Deller. Graphics by Fraser Muggeridge studio. With thanks to Jack Cocker.
