Dominic Beattie and Olivia Bax first exhibited together in 2015 in a group show at the Saatchi Gallery in London. There was a shared dialogue of bold colours and gestural marks between Bax's sculptures and Beattie's paintings. Both artists are interested in making work with punch, distorting familiar elements to find a unique language. For Beattie this is done by using repetitive pattern to build, adjust and break down an image. Bax uses structural armatures on to which she builds, moulds and layers material to work then re-work the surface. There is a sense of immediacy in both artists' work, a quest to channel instincts and feeling. They both playfully investigate how we use and interact with objects. In a conversation between Bax and Beattie in preparation for their show at Linden Hall Studio, Beattie describes their work as sharing a 'squewed domesticity'. Their 2 person exhibition will present sculptures and drawings by Bax with paintings, furniture and ceramics by Beattie in a variety of scales.
