10-hour Durational Performance Event
About
This August, join ]performance s p a c e [ as they celebrate an auspicious 10 years as the U.K’s only performance art-specific, residential space, studio and gallery. The programme, titled PSX culminates on August 21 with a 10-hour, durational performance event featuring new commissions by 9 influential performance artists.
Born out of the Occupy movement, ]performance s p a c e [ (PS) has carved out a nurturing space, allowing artists to experiment and evolve their practice in a supportive community. The featured artists, who include Anne Bean, Martin O’Brien and Alastair MacLennan amongst others, reflect the breadth of these relationships and are a testament to PS’s significant position in the UK’s performance scene, both historically and moving forward.
Co-founded by artistic director Benjamin Sebastian, ]performance s p a c e [ relocated from East London to Folkestone in 2015. London now welcomes ]performance s p a c e [ back with an opportunity to experience their distinctive vision and programming. Says Benjamin Sebastian: “Ten years of sustained activity from any DIY artist-run initiative is significant. Particularly from an organisation like ]performance s p a c e [, with a focus on an ephemeral artform such as performance art."
Contributing Artists include:
Alastair MacLennan - Anne Bean - Chinasa Vivian Ezugha - Elvira Santamaría-Torres - Joseph Morgan Schofield - Martin O’Brien - Rubiane Maia - Poppy Jackson - Selina Bonelli
Ugly Duck: Operating since 2012, Ugly Duck is a London based arts organisation that supports under-represented voices and emerging artists. Their programme enables makers, community groups, professionals and the public to come together around unique cultural experiences and curated events. They have converted a beautiful empty Victorian warehouse in SE1 into a busy creative space which became the home to countless rising artists.
