PROMENADE is a solo exhibition by the artist David Jones. The show is an exploration memories through a series of paintings. Deep reds, blues, and greens are used to visually suggest, stimulate and evoke emotional states. David Jones has developed techniques to heighten the dramatic content used to portray everyday scenes and events. The subjects he chooses to paint are seen in various situations; standing, sitting, and posing in diverse scenery, often seen standing in close proximity to each other, they scarcely seem to interact with each other at all. His featureless faces allow them to be viewed as anyone and everyone. Much of the source material is taken from family portraits, others are from unknown subjects, photographs purchased at fairs and markets. His photography also contributes to the library of images that he uses in the composition of his paintings. ‘As a young boy playing around my neighbourhood, I found the in-between places to be the most interesting... they were peaceful places where I could think, reflect, ponder, and just be...' ‘It is my intention that my work provides a space in the viewer's internal world to pause and reflect privately in the same way those in-between places in my neighbourhood did for me early on. Through all of this, I hope to convey something of the unfathomable depths of the emotional complexity of being human.' Since studying Fine Art at Middlesex University, David Jones has been living and working in London. He has regularly exhibited in the UK and other European countries and has also shown his work as far afield as Japan and the United States. His works are in private collections including Unilever Plc and the Mirror Group Newspapers. For further press material please contact Eleven Spitalfields
