Identity is the central pivot from which the project emanates from. The artist’s interest in the way everyone has an image of themselves, and also an image of others, is examined through portraiture; you see yourself and you judge yourself.
What gives the work in the project that visual edge is the use of adopting non-traditional objects for a painting surface. From torn shreds of cardboard and carpet to tiles, all of the materials that are painted on are found by the artist. The objects develop their own social life and history, culminated by the artist’s punchy and cartoon-esque images in neon brights.
