Printmaking & Bookmaking Workshop

This 2 day printmaking and book binding course coincides with Jade's solo exhibition at Crescent Arts. The course will kick start with a talk by Jade discussing her exhibition and the ideas behind the images and text she incorporates in her work. Over the course participants will have the opportunity to produce a small series of carborundum prints on a combination of papers including handmade paper. Carborundum is a grit, which is applied to the printing plate to create rich tones and textures, used in combination with other materials it can give an impression of embossing as well as printing. Carborundum can be applied in various ways making it a very versatile technique; it can be used to create both expressive painterly mark-making as well as graphical type imagery. The emphasis of the image making will be using collage and text. A selection of these prints will be used as part of the material for the books. At the end of the weekend participants will have produced a small series of finished prints and created an individual, unique hand bound book. Workshops are for adults aged 18 years and over.
