Turn old fabric into DIY fashion, led by expert embroiderer, Hannah Cadogan. Alongside lessons in running stitch and french knots, the workshop will explore the connections between embroidery, and radical psychiatry, drawing on Hannah's experience in inpatient units.
About
You’ll go home with a piece of patchwork made with your own fair hand, and the skills to customise clothes or make quilts. All materials are provided in this beginner’s workshop led by Hannah Cadogan (expert embroiderer), supported by Laura Mitchison (oral historian with On the Record).
Hannah had her needles and floss confiscated when she entered the mental health system, despite being so gifted that she was invited to work on a Royal wedding dress. Hannah now works as a nurse and, in her spare time, brings embroidery lessons to current inpatients at The Cassel Hospital.
All materials will be provided in this free beginners’ workshop. Booking essential.
This is the first of a series of artist-led workshops emerging from On the Record's residency with an experimental psychiatric unit - The Cassel Hospital in South London.
