New group of paintings by Bristol based artist Carl Melegari
Melegari's work is explored through the title of the exhibition âPowers of Observation' which he interprets as the dark silence of his observation. This is explored through the expressive qualities of paint and the objective language of visual form.
Melegari applies the paint both liberally and without reserve, allowing the form to manifest itself, partially through the paint's inner rhythm. He replicates the unmasking of self through the stripping back and layering of paint. Ghostly apparitions through painterly gestures emerge to create a figural imprint of the observation and imagination of the artist.
