About
Jess Baines will explore the variety of east London's alternative printing initiatives between the early 1970s and 1990s, putting these often radical and social movements into a wider cultural and political context.
Jess Baines is a Senior Lecturer for Contextual and Theoretical Studies in the Design School at London College of Communication. Before going into teaching, she worked for many years in ‘alternative’ printing shops in south and east London. She has done a considerable amount of research and writing, about the history and particularities of these forms of radical printers in the UK which often tried to combine resourcing radical and social movements and campaigns and experimenting with alternative working structures.
