About
To become a household name as an artist is for most an unachievable feat, yet household names abound in society. But what is required for someone or something to become a household name? Historically most artists that have achieved this status have been male, Household Name seeks to address this imbalance, as well as illuminate the inadequacies of multi-gender representation in museums and galleries.

All of the artists in the exhibition are exploring widely different themes that have had an impact on their lives as women, these themes include; family member dynamics, working parents and family commitment, and an examination of so-called gender norms, these will be just some of the themes scrutinised in Household Name. Household Name is a contemporary art exhibition featuring seven Welsh and Wales-based women artists working in a broad range of multimedia. The artists as we have said are all female but are diverse in experience and include internationally renowned practitioners, emerging artists and those in between.
All have created work that is inspired and responsive to the title Household Name but with very different perspectives and outcomes, this will prove to be a fascinating and dynamic show and is one that definitely puts female artists to the fore.
The exhibition will open at The Bomb Factory Art Foundation, London and then travel to Elysium Gallery, Swansea.
