About
‘Poster Boy’ is an exploration of our societal understanding of HIV/AIDS, by drawing on four notable people affected, artist Elliot Jack Stew fictitiously self reflects on his own diagnoses and what it means to live a HIV positive existence.
Poster Boy steals the aesthetics of AIDS posters and activist groups alike, Bold in colour and conversational in content, the viewer is invited to question their understanding of the Virus and the stigmas associated.
Through paint their lives are re-imagined to further investigate the switch between the private and the public; how an individual’s unique personal narrative can simultaneously occupy a space of collective feeling and ownership – the works become a way to embrace failure, contingency and unpredictability.
