Riverside Artists Group (RAG) is delighted to announce a new exhibition, Postcards from the River’s Edge, with member artists showing new work themed on the River Thames, or as a metaphorical interpretation of the nature and influence of rivers. Also showing will be guest ceramicist, Julie Peel.

About

The exhibition will take place in the Robert Phillips Gallery at the Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre, Walton-on-Thames, opening on 27th April and running daily until Sunday, 8th May (10am-4pm).  Each artist is creating two works, one ‘postcard’ and another larger work.  There will be work in all media, including digital and sculpture.

This exhibition continues the theme launched in 2021 of River, a successful series of exhibitions and events last September, as part of the Totally Thames festival.

As part of the exhibition, there will be other free events at the Riverhouse Barn:

·      Drawing Meditation Sessions, Thursdays 28th April & 5th May at 11.30am (duration 45-60  minutes):  For both beginners and experienced artists, led by RAG member Felicity Swan.  The group will do a series of short, simple drawing exercises.

·      Spontaneous Art & Storytelling performance, Wednesday 4th May at 4pm (duration 45-60 minutes): All welcome. A collaboration between Felicity Swan and oral storyteller Belinda McKenna-Bicknell, of Curious House of Stories - a combination of intuitive drawing and storytelling as they respond to each other in the moment to create a unique performance. There will be an opportunity for discussion.

·      Community Clay Workshop, Thursday, 5th May at 12.45  (duration 90 minutes):  For all ages and abilities, led by Máire Gartland and Janey Hagger.  An installation, based on the Thames at Walton, will be made from clay figures and other items that represent the local community.

The Riverhouse Barn is a thriving arts centre, right on the Thames. It has many events, a good cafe and along the river are lovely walks - and pubs. There is good public transport and parking space available in the area, as well as some parking at the centre. www.riverhousebarn.co.uk

Riverside Artists Group (RAG): Established in 1986, RAG is a diverse group of practising artists.  Members have exhibited nationally and internationally both individually and as a group. New members are welcomed annually to create an exciting and progressive community.  For more information please see:

Julie Peel:  Working from her studio in Walton on Thames, Julie makes limited edition pieces in porcelain in stoneware.  Much of her work is inspired by the coastline of the North East of England, where she grew up, and an interest in Japanese aesthetics. Her particular concern is conservation of the marine environment as reflected in her range of ‘Seagrass’ vessels.  Contact: www.juliepeelceramics.com
