About
Position & Attachment is a new exhibition by Glasgow-based artist Stephanie Black-Daniels. The artist draws on her experience of navigating breastfeeding practice in manmade public spaces during lockdown, whilst also considering the medical language used to describe and instruct a feeding journey. The new performance-based works for Collective build upon two years of performative and collaborative research with a group of women. They consider the potential for breastfeeding bodies to reclaim public space, while centering practice, experimentation, labour and care.
This exhibition is part of our Satellites Programme for emerging creative practitioners.
Stephanie Black-Daniels is a Glasgow-based artist, researcher and facilitator. Stephanie works with performance, film and installation to examine the relationship between gender, sexuality and cultural-social notions around the body and architecture.
Stephanie’s most recent commission was BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK, as part of GoMA at Home (Glasgow), supported by Art Fund’s Respond and Reimagine Fund. She has also been funded by Fruitmarket Gallery’s (Edinburgh) Open Bodies 18-19 programme, Creative Scotland and the British Council. Previous to this, she presented Angled arm and hand signals at Glasgow Central Station, responding to the historic site of the former Alston Street Theatre and paying homage to women of the city, supported by ScotRail Foundation Cultural and Arts Grant Programme.
