About

The Brick Lane Gallery is proud to invite you to PORTRAITS, a group exhibition focused on the traditional and long favored art genre of portraiture. From highly detailed works that practically erase the detachment between art and reality, to modern deconstructions that invite us to explore deeper into the emotions and thoughts of the sitters, our perceptions are challenged in order to discover a reality beyond pure physical depictions.

One of the exhibiting artists, Darina, shares with us engaging photographs where we are not only introduced to her sitters but are welcome into being part of their stories. She creates intimate and appealing works that demand engagement from the viewer. Tom Searles’ energetic pieces unveil the sitters through bold colour bursting out and strong dynamic geometric shapes. Each shape is essential and guides the viewer into a journey of discovery seeking essence rather than realism. Robyn McIntyre’s portraits have remarkable observational depth; she creates charcoal pieces with great enhancement of details where we can find beauty in every line. Thanks to her technique and approach each delicate piece reveals hidden emotions, resulting in insightful views of the sitters.

You are warmly welcome to join us for a drink with the artists at the opening night of PORTRAITS at The Brick Lane Gallery open from 6pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 31st August 2016.
