The Brick Lane Gallery is proud to present PORTRAITS. This exhibition aims to explore this genre, breaking the boundaries of what is commonly perceived as traditional portraiture. These UK and international artists explore portraiture beyond representing a person's likeness; they capture their sitters’ personality and spirit, through their unique styles and techniques. The representations are widely different as they all focus on different aspects and their approaches are an example of the variety of this genre in contemporary art.
One of the exhibiting artists Philippe Merie, is primarily occupied in performing his artwork. His ongoing passion for art has resulted in a constant search for the boundaries between photography and the art of painting. He trained as a photographer at “Jorn Freddie” Copenhagen, and “Aldo Léfere” Paris, he opened his own studio in Copenhagen in 1980 working for companies like H&M, Leviś, Carlsberg, Sony, Virgin, CocaCola, Tivoli, The Royal Danish Theatre, Saga Furs, Arcadia Group, Marks and Spencer, among others. He has received several awards for his work including the Aurora Award 1990 and The Golden Pencil 1993. In 2010 he was nominated by the magazine American Photo as one of the worlds ten best advertisements for an IKEA campaign. Alan Wynne does not like to restrict himself in any way when it comes to producing his artwork. No style or medium is off limits to him when creating a piece, we are only limited by our imagination. With his mosaic piece's he takes an art form that has been around for over a thousand years to create contemporary pieces that blend in with modern day idea's and concepts.
You are warmly welcome to join us for a drink with the artists at the opening night of PORTRAITS at The Brick Lane Gallery open from 6pm – 8.30pm on Wednesday 9th November 2016.
