Portraits invites us to discover the reinterpretation of this classic genre through the remarkable pieces of local and international artists.
About
Exploring from an individual's physical appearance and personality, to its role in society and even its conceptualization, we find many examples who immortalize a variety of subjects in fascinating and complex ways.
OP Freuler presents pieces that create a relationship with the viewers, pulling them in and allowing them to experience themselves what the work is about. Playing with different colours, shapes and brushstrokes, the artist portrays the energy and strength of the subjects representing more than true likeness but focusing in the expressions and transferring the emotions. We also explore some of the key strands of portraiture through Terry Belinksy’s works, who making use of the contrast of light and colours creates a mystical atmosphere. She enhances certain features and brings out the stories of the people represented, confronting us with another view and perception of the identity of the portrayed subjects.
The diversity of expression is not only reflected in the approach to portraying the sitters but it is also evident in the varied mediums presented in the show, ranging from drawings and paintings to photographs.
You are warmly welcome to join us for a drink with the artists at the opening night of PORTRAITS at The Brick Lane Gallery open from 6pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 13th April 2016.
