During this workshop we will be looking at the direct, or tile method of using oil paint to develop a portrait. When adopting this process, the painter attempts to put down each application of paint, with the desire that the mark will remain visible as part of the final piece.
We will be looking at artists such as Manet and Anders Zorn. Developing the portrait in a way that is personal to each student, while still applying individual strokes. With every application we will be considering colour, temperature and tone, as well as each marks relationship to its neighbours.
