AN INTRODUCTION TO PORTRAIT PAINTING FROM LIFE
About
Focusing on the head and shoulders, you will be introduced to the different approaches of making a portrait in oils. With a series of demonstrations you will be guided through the different techniques and materials best suited to your own particular style of painting. This will include initial sketches, planning a composition, choosing and preparing your painting surface and grounds, choosing and mixing colour and the application and techniques of applying oil paint.James Hague is a London based artist who studied Fine Art at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle and the Royal College of Art. In 1996 he won the BP portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery. Most recently he was the recipient of the Ondjaatje Prize for portraiture at the Royal society of Portrait Painters. James
has recently become a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
