An experiment in expanding conscious awareness and embodiment of space and art across large distances.
About
Portals (3) presented in collaboration with Cosmogram, is scheduled for September 8th in Berlin at 19:00. Attendees in Berlin will be connected to a live performance happening in Venice, all in real-time video on large screens, with sound emanating from our state-of-the-art omnidirectional speakers, spatialized live in 4DSOUND by MONOM.
The third episode of Portals bridges Venice and Berlin through the sound practice of Berlin-based artist Isabel Lewis which, just like her work as a dancer and choreographer, is a strategy of response to space, time, architecture, and situation. Taking the form of extended flow structured improvisations for voice and electronics, she produces an ambient yet rhythmic sound sampling, layering, distorting, looping and morphing together fragments, from a broad range of musical material—from medieval chamber music to Juicy J chopped and screwed then smoothed over and reorganized like a mutating body writhing and swaying. Woven into the sonic textures are Lewis’s own voice masked and transformed by digital effects as well as modified field recordings. Hymns are sung over the scraps and broken pieces of popular culture as Lewis pulls out the fragile beauty of fragmented melodies layered over distorted audio files.
As the night culminates, attendees will be invited to stay in the studio to listen to experiments created by the Monom artist team. The bar will be open until midnight.
