About
Pop Art was one of the most powerful artistic movements of the 20th Century. Shifting attention from the exalted to the everyday, the movement blended high modernism with our wider visual culture; focusing on glamorous stars, consumerism, and comics, it imbued art with a new immediacy and vitality. Today, the influence of Pop is far reaching and can been seen in the work of many contemporary artists. POP is a celebration of the pivotal 1960’s movement, the exhibition shows the extent to which the movement continues to shape, inspire and inform the art of today.
This exhibition also features the introduction of six unique Star Wars artworks signed by the legendary Marvel creator Stan Lee. The Marvel Star Wars comic series, published between 1977-1986, was the first official comic book adaption of Star Wars and proved a phenomenal success. Being shown alongside are a further collection of signed works featuring the most recognisable of Marvel comics’ cover stars.
