Smiths Magazine Private View - The launch of the final issue of 08/09, a celebration of the editorial team and for contributors, showcasing defining images from previous issues, the artwork and music of MilesDuval plus a DJ set from Cote d'Ivoire via Paris from Arnaud. Served with plantain (from 7pm).
Plantain à' signifies not only dishes chopped and fried from 100 plantains from Peckham market but the regions that influence the music for the night. DJ's will be spinning Baile funk: coupe decale, babaraba, hi life, afrofunk from west african dance halls: blues and funk from the southern United States: hip hop and dub. Performing live will be Rahel, a soul singer from North London venturing down and across the river, Nu Brand Flexxx, up and coming mc's soon to release their follow up album to Rangoose........ plus the raw sound of bucket drummers. It is the start of a collection of nights organised by the Fandango collective, a new cross based group consisting of artists, musicians, writers and general-secretaries!
