Swap your plants!
About

Alongside Matthew Beach’s Herbarium exhibition, we invite you to bring a plant to San Mei Gallery with a note attached to it with a memory of that plant. Then, on the last day of the exhibition (15th of May), you will be invited back to the gallery to pick up someone else's plant!
Please note that you do not have to bring in a whole plant, it can also be a cutting from one of your plants at home.
We would appreciate it if you could bring your plant in a plant pot or old plastic container, attached with a note of a memory of that plant you would like to share or a poem/quote you associate with the plant. It would also be helpful to label the type of plant it is and some basic directions on how to take care of it if you know this information.
We hope that by hosting the houseplant swap in the gallery space, we can foster conversation and build community through critically reflecting on the care for tropical and subtropical plants in domestic space.
Please bring your plants to the gallery from the 14th of April until the 8th of May during gallery opening hours.*

*(All plants to be brought in one week prior to the swap to allow time for plants to be ‘in quarantine’ so as to not risk spreading the COVID-19 virus)
Inspired by Matthew Beach’s The Herbarium Shadow exhibition which will open online from 3 April with a small series of virtual events and then will open physically to the public from 15 April.
