“Pipe Dreams” seeks to channel you into a reverie of waterways, debris, fluids, and ferments. A series of time-based, interactive art pieces will be unfolding across the canal-side patio and the intimate room at Chisenhale Studios 31.3 - 2.4.2023 (Fri - Sun).
About
“Pipe Dreams” is a site-specific response to the ‘pipe dream’ of the neighbouring canal – the unrealized business project of the Hertford Union Canal. While laden with deposits and discharges, within and through the canal has seen organisms fermented and liveliness regenerated. A symbiosis between human and non-human has been fostered by this seemingly decaying water body.
Flowing across the canal-side patio and the intimate room, is re-enacted and newly developed interactive installations, performances, and moving images by Lucy Clout, Lena Hannigan, Siin Lee, Qingqing Liu, Zack Mennell, Laure Vigna, and Joana Viveiros. Temporality and legacy of time-based mediums are highlighted to mirror how the ephemeral passing of fluids leaves traces.
By connecting the constituents and rhythms of the decaying water to our everyday interactions with fluids, we invite you to a reflexive exploration on how we submerge, flow, suffocate, breathe, react, and transform in canals, ducts, pipes and vessels, in turbid flux and flow.
