About
We live in a world of constantly changing imagery. As the visual stimuli that we encounter daily changes, a question is posed: does the self need to change to keep up with these reinventions?
Picture Interrupted uses a common subject matter, the personified body, to explore the effect of imagery on our perceptions of self.
Mike Bartlett and Sarah Jeffries approach this concept through two very different means: Bartlett uses painting to resurrect reportage footage, creating mirage-like imagery that questions the ubiquity of the iconic. Conversely, Jeffries takes the icon and through a process of critique complicates the patriarchal relationship bound up in the glossy media image.
Join us for a special Frieze week preview on Friday 4 October.
