A series of photographs capturing Kate's Journey by photographer Norbert Kiss
About
'Phototherapy 2'
Norbert Kiss has been a professional photographer for over 12 years, carrying out photoshoots all over the world. Being so flexible has given Norbert the opportunity to work with a variety of people in a wide range of situations and settings. One of his favourite parts of the job is putting peoples stories together in photographs, creating future memories, today. Norbert’s passion is to help people understand mental health and widen people’s perspective through the art of phototherapy.
Norbert sat in a room with just Kate and his camera and she told him her story…
Kate has suffered with bipolar for over 20 years, she doesn’t let it defy her but she has learnt over the years to deal with it one day at a time, with the additional help of medication. She said that the problem with bipolar is that your personality can go from euphoric to complete doom in the blink of an eye. That it’s a rollercoaster of emotions and you just don’t’ know how you will feel from one minute to the next. All Kate has ever looked for is acceptance and to be understood and that when she has a really bad time the calm, loving side of her will be back again at some point, that she has to deal with each episode on her own. Kate’s partner of 22 years has been on each and every one of her journeys with her, and for that she is grateful.
Kate is a strong woman who will not let bipolar defeat her, she is funny, laughs hard, loves deeply and feels everything with her soul. Capturing Kate’s emotions when she was telling him the story of her life was a powerful experience for Norbert and he hopes that it reaches out to others, showing people that they are not alone.
Norbert’s series of photographs of Kate’s journey – entitled ‘Phototherapy 2’ will be on show at The Minories from 3rd – 15th February
Open Monday – Sunday 10am – 5pm
