Working at the forefront of genderqueer visual politics for more than three decades, photographer Lola Flash’s work challenges stereotypes and offers new ways of seeing that interrogate gender, sexual, and racial stereotypes.
About
In this talk, Flash will share insights from her socially engaged practice, portraying sitters from diverse cultural backgrounds in major cities from London to New York to Cape Town. She will be joined by Autograph Senior Curator Renée Mussai, to discuss politics of representation and visibility in Flash’s work and beyond.
'Flash’s photography pays tribute to those who courageously navigate contested zones of existence, transforming dissident sexualities and complex cultural identities into productive sites of exploration, reclamation and occupation.'
