The Brick Lane Gallery welcomes you to its latest curated PHOTOGRAPHY NOW exhibition, celebrating artworks created in the photographic medium. Using a wide variety of photographic approaches, nine local and international artists present a range of contemporary photographs, experimental series, and new and unseen projects.
Andrew Maher from the UK presents an exploration of reality and illusion in different emotional states. The works were created using photographs representing his own experience. The images represent real moments, which have been distorted and shattered into oblivion. Barry Marsden’s works also go beyond the printed page by creating a connection with the audience. Here, he presents a selection of images taken from an archive that goes back 30 years, and which he has reworked as miniatures and reprocessed using a commercially available App that ironically transforms them into a contemporary “faux vintage” image. Alongside these works Barry is also exhibiting a selection of his most recent personal portraits and a series of found objects. We are also invited to explore the American West through the works of Thomas S. Parry. His photographs represent the world we live in as a place of extraordinary beauty; a world which holds wonderful natural treasures. However, the work also invites us to reflect on how our exploitation of the natural environment and climate change are threatening much of the delicate interrelation and natural beauty of our earth.
