About

The Brick Lane Gallery is excited to present our Spring PHOTOGRAPHY NOW exhibition which will present a wide variety of local and international talented photographers introducing us to their work. From Austria, Japan, Latvia, Norway, Slovakia and the UK these artists invite us to discover the diverse and innovative dialogues that are created through the lens of a camera.

Ammar Syed’s diptych deals with the ideas of perception – how a gallery audience will perceive these images, and would it create doubt? It also stemmed from the idea of coveting images of ordinary objects on the street and the need to present them in an impressionist abstraction. Questioning the idea of an image of a discarded object and its place in a gallery space. In this instance the work is an amalgamation of reflected and inverted images of chewing gums, buildings, a lamp post, discarded cigarettes, neon signs and rain water near Leicester Square in London's west end. The structure of the scattered chewing gums appeared almost like a constellation to the artist, which are enhanced by printing them on a reflective surface. Andrea Koporova presents her series "Isolated", which captures people in a contemporary modern age full of technical achievements which literally isolate many people from reality, and in many cases cause psychological discomfort. Her works are entirely focused on emotions, which pull us in into a self discovery journey which allows us to question our experiences self reflect. We are also invited to question our relationship with familiar, every day objects through the striking works by still life photographer Eva Iova. She explores the difference between things and objects and when one becomes the other.
