The Brick Lane Gallery is proud to present Photography Now. This exhibition brings together an eclectic group of photographers from the UK and abroad, who question reality through unique photographic techniques, documenting social and natural life through their own lens. Viewers are asked to look from an alternative angle, exposing themselves to the augmented interpretations of the photographers. The diversity of the exhibition proves that photography as an art form is an important tool for reflection and expressions, the show aims to conjure unknown thoughts and ideas through diverse themes.

One of the exhibiting artists Ammar Syed holds an MA in Photography from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts, London. His Observational Paradox series of work investigates the ‘Banal’ and ‘Everyday’ with a concentrated focus on ordinary discarded objects on the street. In this instance he focused on the CCTV camera mounted on a column. The work seeks to unpack different narratives of the everyday object, by defamiliarization – placing the object in a different context. By focusing on the everyday CCTV camera, the body of work incorporates suspicion and scrutiny surrounding the Islamic world and especially Islam as a religion due to terrorist incidents globally over the past decade. Richard Peters, through his distinct style, captures a combination of three key elements, drama, atmosphere and personality, from his wild subjects. With a keen eye for light and contrast, he places more emphasis and importance on visual impact than the subject needed to create it. As such, he is as equally inspired by common species as he is the more exotic. Testament to this came in the form of his project Back Garden Safari, which focused heavily on the wildlife that visits his garden.

You are warmly welcome to join us for a drink with the artists at the opening night of PHOTOGRAPHY NOW at

The Brick Lane Gallery open from 6pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 26th October 2016.
