Exhibition
Phoebe Boswell, Here
18 May 2021 – 24 Jul 2021
The New Art Exchange
Nottingham, United Kingdom
Timezone: Europe/London
Born in Nairobi but brought up in the Arabian Gulf, Phoebe Boswell reveals that she felt "amputated from Kenya". The fragility of her Kenyan identity, and the rootless aspect of her being, ignites her work with a delicate search for 'home'.
During this online performative talk, Phoebe Boswell will talk us through how her art enables her to channel this yearning, traversing her practice as a series of visual essays relating to personal history, language, memory, race, freedom, the body, her artmaking, and how, as a Black woman artist, she navigates the odious structures of power and conditioning that coloniality aims to govern us by.
After the talk Phoebe Boswell will be in conversation with Cindy Sissokho, NAE's Curator & Special Projects Producer, and there will also be an opportunity for Phoebe to answer questions from the audience.
