About

Beautifully contextualising the Basil Beattie's work is a one room display of painting and lithographs by Philip Guston. 2013 marks the centenary of Philip Guston's birth. Beattie saw Philip Guston's Whitechapel show in 1962 and was later strongly influenced by his work. Guston was closely associated with American Abstract Expressionism and the artists Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, and his childhood friend Jackson Pollock.
